An all-time favorite food spot: The Crab Shack on Tybee Island, GA

One of my all-time favorite food spots is the Crab Shack — and it doesn’t even have anything to do with the food. When I’m seeking out spots to check out, I’m usually looking most for atmosphere and experience.

Situated on Chimney Creek on Tybee Island GA and cloaked by low hanging trees, this venerable establishment has TONS of character. After traversing the parking lot and the “Gator Pond”, you end up at a large deck with indoor and outdoor seating, a gift shop, a bar/arcade room, a “bird shack” full of exotic birds and more.

Trees are decorated with Christmas lights, decorations are everywhere you look and, of course, there are views of the creek.

Seafood is naturally their speciality — but not my specialty — so I’m not the best to comment on the seafood itself, but the menu has plenty of other options too including BBQ.

One thing I do know is that food tastes better when you’re in a good mood — and that’s always the case at a place like this. I try to go here every time I’m in Savannah. It’s a complete gem. I hope it never changes.
