Perfect Reflections: North Jersey’s Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge

On the way home from a whirlwind of a winter food and drink tour through Connecticut, I had a chance to walk through some of North Jersey’s Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge in Basking Ridge — 12 square miles of nature.

There’s about a mile worth of boardwalk trails cutting through swampy area. Love a boardwalk trail! The mosquitos in the summer here must be an honest nightmare though.

The coolest part of the park for me is the amazingly perfect reflections in the swamps. The swamp water here is steady as a mirror. I’m not sure how many people appreciate this, but I think it’s really cool.

I couldn’t help but think of Bruce Springsteen lyrics while walking through here:

And my tires were slashed and I almost crashed, but the Lord had mercy. And my machine, she’s a dud, I’m stuck in the mud somewhere in the swamps of Jersey –Rosalita
