Canvas File Upload 400 Error: Request failed with status code 400

At the University of Pennsylvania, one user was sometimes receiving the following error when trying to upload files into their Canvas site:

"Error: Request failed with status code 400"

I couldn't find much about this non-descriptive error message online. To troubleshoot, we tried different browsers, cleared each browser's cache and cookies and verified that the file type was an accepted file type by Canvas (i.e. we were trying to upload a .psd file). I was personally able to upload files without issue. So, we contacted the Canvas support team at our University.

The answer: The Canvas site was at its storage capacity quota.

That is, the site had a limit of 3 GB. This explains why some files were able to upload without issue; Small files were not pushing us over the quota, but attempts to upload large files were.

Our support team was able to increase the quota and file uploading worked like normal once again.

I AM TRYING TO UPLOAD MY LAST POWERPOINT AND GET THIS FAILURE MESSAGE. I SUSPECT I AM OVER THE 3GB LIMIT. DO I NEED TO DELETE EARLIER POWERPPOINTS?

Apologies for the late reply -- my suggestion would be to request an increase on your Canvas site or try moving out older materials if you're able to!

Hi! Chris Thanks for the advice. I had this error for a couple of weeks and I couldn't send any attachments it says error 400 . I've checked my archives list. And it says 103% so I removed some sent files from the list. And it came up as to 25%. So I hope I can send my pdf file or any doc attachments on my next assignment without any problems. Thanks.
