How to add a Shopify Store as a Subdomain of your Existing Website

I was interested in adding a Shopify store to my existing website, while also using the domain name I already had (rather than use the storename.myshopify.com web site address that Shopify provides). The solution that made most sense, in my head at least, was to make the Shopify store accessible through my domain name as a subdomain.

As in, make the Shopfiy store accessible via shop.mydomainname.com, where mydomainname.com was my existing site.

It was surprisingly difficult to find information on how to accomplish this. Eventually I stumbled upon this article which I didn't want to lose. I could see this information being useful again to myself and maybe others!

In short, you must add two "C" records to your domain name's DNS settings. (If you are familiar with CPanel, this is possible by logging into CPanel and using the Advanced Zone Editor). The two C records to add are the following:

1:

Name: shop.yourdomain.com.

CNAME: yourshopifystorename.myshopify.com

2:

Name: www.shop.yourdomain.com.

CNAME: yourshopifystorename.myshopify.com

It may take 24 hours for these changes to take effect.

The last step is to verify this setting with Shopify by going to online store > domains > connect existing domain and entering "shop.yourdomain.com".

Then, your store should be accessible as a subdomain of your existing domain name!

Hi Chris, is it possible to have 2 shopify stores - 1 on the main domain name and another on its subdomain? Thank you. Awesome tutorial by the way.

Hi Chris, I'm also wondering the same thing. We have two different sites that serve different purposes but have the same products and the same customers. Would a subdomain work here to get them linked to the same store but have different domain names to get there?

do i have to buy the shop.shopify.com url though? From shopify? DO I have to call my domain provider to get this subdomain? Does shopify give you option to use your own subdomain?
